EU tyre label: fuel, wet grip, noise, snow and ice
What the label classes A–E show, why different sizes of the same model have different labels, and where to find EPREL data.
Car and van tyres sold in the European Union must carry a tyre label (Regulation (EU) 2020/740). The label data is publicly available in the European product database EPREL.
Parts of the label
- Fuel efficiency (A–E) – rolling resistance. A has the lowest resistance.
- Wet grip (A–E) – braking performance on wet roads. A is the best.
- External rolling noise – decibels (dB) and class A, B or C.
- Snow grip pictogram – the tyre meets the requirements for severe snow conditions (3PMSF).
- Ice grip pictogram – the tyre has passed an ice braking test.
The label is size-specific
Different sizes of the same model may have different classes. That is why Landsail.ee shows the label data separately for each size and links to the corresponding EPREL entry – not as a single “model label”.
Studded tyres
The EU tyre label does not apply to studded tyres. If a studdable tyre is registered in EPREL, the data applies to the tyre without studs.
